“Avelino” is a 15 minute documentary in Spanish, focusing primarily on the day police arrested him in February 2008 after over 20 years in clandestinity. It includes interviews with Avelino’s wife Blanca and other family members, as well as friends and supporters of the campaign for his freedom. Avelino was extradited to Connecticut, where he was facing charges for the Macheteros’ expropriation of over $7 million from a Wells Fargo depot. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison, with a release date of October 2012. Produced by the Movimiento Hacia Socialismo with the permission of the Committee of Friends and Family of Avelino González Claudio.

The National Boricua Human Rights Network (NBHRN) is an organization composed of Puerto Ricans in the US and their supporters that educates and mobilizes the Puerto Rican community, the broader Latin American community and other people of conscience regarding issues of justice, peace and human rights. Our priorities include: (1) An end to the continuing political repression and criminalization of progressive sectors of the Puerto Rican community; and 2) The decontamination, development, and return of the island of Vieques to its people.
