Oscar shared his enthusiasm about the activities carried out on May 29 in San Juan, Caguas, Ponce, Mayagüez and Arecibo, called 32 x Oscar, on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of his imprisonment.
“It was something surprising, moving, something I hadn’t anticipated, hadn’t expected. It reminded me of ’99; it reminded me of ’79. It’s really interesting, because one discovers the greatness of the Puerto Rican heart, which for me may be the thing that has most made me dedicate my time to the struggle for the independence of Puerto Rico, because I think that this heart must be preserved. But I didn’t expect it; it surprised me; it moved me. And it made me say that there is something very special in the Puerto Rican being, especially the issue of injustice and solidarity. It’s a very supportive people; were good at that. I read a note that Gervasio sent me; it was really super, him sharing his thoughts while he was in the cell. Things that are really good. Truthfully, it was an enormously rich experience for me.”
He related that four days after May 29 he received a letter from France and another from Germany from people who let him know they’d seen what happened that day in Puerto Rico. He had also received comments from non-Puerto Ricans surprised at the solidarity demonstrated by the group of women 32 x Oscar.

Oscar compartió su entusiasmo sobre las actividades celebradas el pasado 29 de mayo en San Juan, Caguas, Ponce, Mayagüez y Arecibo, denominadas 32 x Oscar, con motivo de cumplirse ese día 32 años de su encarcelamiento.
“Fue algo sorprendente, conmovedor, algo que yo no lo anticipaba, no lo esperaba. Me trajo recuerdos del ‘99, me trajo recuerdos del ‘79. Es bien interesante porque uno descubre la grandeza del corazón boricua, y para mí, quizás lo más que me ha hecho dedicar mi tiempo a la lucha por la independencia de Puerto Rico, porque yo creo que ese corazón se tiene que preservar. Pero yo no lo esperaba, me sorprendió, me conmovió. Y me hizo ver que hay algo bien especial en el ser puertorriqueño, especialmente la cuestión de las injusticias y la solidaridad. Es un pueblo solidario, nosotros somos buenos en eso. Leí la cartita que me mandó Gervasio, que fue bien chévere, compartir él esos pensamientos estando en una celda. Cosas que son bien buenas. A la verdad fue una experiencia riquísima para mí”.
Relató que cuatro días después del 29 de mayo recibió una carta de Francia y otra de Alemania de personas que le dejaron saber que habían visto lo que pasó ese día en Puerto Rico. También ha recibido comentarios de personas no puertorriqueñas sorprendidas con la solidaridad demostrada por el grupo de mujeres 32 x Oscar.
