On August 3, 2009, FCI Terre Haute officials took Puerto Rican Political Prisoner Oscar López Rivera for cataract surgery on his right eye. Two years earlier, he had surgery on his left eye. In the interim, Bureau of Prisons health care providers refused to prescribe new eyeglasses, even though his vision had changed. They insisted that they would not examine him for a new prescription until his other cataract operation. Once he recuperates from surgery, they should have no excuse. He is feeling well following the surgery.
