The world lost a principled revolutionary when Lawrence Reyes passed away on Dec. 31, 2022.
A Puerto Rican labor activist, he fought against U.S. colonialism and for immigrant rights. He used his booming voice to demand respect for issues like abortion rights and equal pay. And long before #MeToo, he defended women leaders and socialist feminists in the movements.
FSP comrades in Los Angeles worked with Reyes over the years including his efforts to send mutual aid to communities in Puerto Rico devastated by Hurricane Maria and the U.S. forced austerity policy PROMESA. He was collaborative and always identified with marginalized communities.
He will be missed.
