Durante nuestros viajes a la prisión, Don Juan me relató la historia del Partido Nacionalista, Albizu Campos, los juicios y la represión durante los años 30. Aquí estaba un hombre en el centro de la tormenta, el secretario general del Partido Nacionalista, compartiendo sus experiencias mientras que viajábamos por las llanuras de la región nor-central de los Estados Unidos.

The celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Puerto Rican National poet and revolutionary independentista, Juan Antonio Corretjer, roused my memories of this great man. I was privileged to have met and spent time with Don Juan in the 1970′s and early 80′s as a result of my work as an attorney on behalf of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Prisoners.

On Friday, April 4th, NBHRN celebrated the Centennial of Juan Antonio Corretjer with a concert by Orquesta Mapeyé, who along with the Boricua Hip-Hop star, SieteNueve, came directly from Puerto Rico to Chicago.

…el verdadero tributo y respeto que le podemos rendir a Juan Antonio Corretjer, al Comandante Juan Antonio Corretjer, no es meramente venir aquí todos los años a hacerle un recordatorio…es estudiar sus obras, poner en práctica sus ideas y difundirlas. Es serle fiel a sus pensamientos y ejecutorias aun después de su muerte.
