A Remembrance of Don Juan Antonio Corretjer

The celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Puerto Rican National poet and revolutionary independentista, Juan Antonio Corretjer, roused my memories of this great man. I was privileged to have met and spent time with Don Juan in the 1970’s and early 80’s as a result of my work as an attorney on behalf of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Prisoners.

A federal prosecutor on Monday attempted to link Avelino Gonzalez-Claudio to rocket attacks in Puerto Rico while arguing that the alleged Puerto Rican militant should be detained without bail for a 1983 armored car robbery in Connecticut.

On Friday, April 4th, NBHRN celebrated the Centennial of Juan Antonio Corretjer with a concert by Orquesta Mapeyé, who along with the Boricua Hip-Hop star, SieteNueve, came directly from Puerto Rico to Chicago.
