In the struggle for the independence of Puerto Rico, we have suffered mistreatment and unending abuse. It is the truth. But it is also true that we have had triumphs which we are proud of, because we have managed to maintain our identity, our culture, and above all, our dignity.

Inexplicably, Carlos Alberto’s punishment was more severe than that imposed on some of the other ten, and includes two months of segregation, including no visits and no telephone, as well as loss of good time— which has the effect of extending the length of his imprisonment.

Eight former Black community activists—Black Panthers and others—were arrested in 2007 on California charges dating back to 1971.
